February is an entertaining month: sports fans have the Super Bowl, romantics love Valentine’s Day and the armchair fashion critic in all of us has the awards show double-header of the Grammys and the Oscars. While the Oscars are a bit predictable from a fashion and grooming standpoint, the Grammys are much more fun because you never know what will come down the red carpet and march right up on stage. Gwen Stefani in pink hair and matching pink braces! Lady Gaga’s meat dress! Pharrell’s giant hat! And since we’re all about hair, we salute this year’s nominees whose strands stand out.
The Weeknd – The man with the bi-level, gravity-defying ‘do told Rolling Stone his hair makes it challenging for him to see and sometimes results in neck pain. An homage to dread-sporting ‘80s artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, The Weeknd’s unique hairstyle fortunately doesn’t overshadow his music, specifically Beauty Behind the Madness which is nominated for Grammy Album of the Year.
Nikki Minaj – She’s gone from a platinum beehive with leopard spots to a lollipop-hued head of curls – check out her myriad looks over the years on this E! photo gallery – but the look we’re loving on bad girl Nikki is her most recent transformation: shiny, sleek, long and luxurious. Wonder if she’s been using Renessence? 😉
Alabama Shakes – Not only are we crazy for their distinct sound on the Grammy-nominated Sound & Color, but the individual looks lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboard player Ben Tanner, and drummer Steve Johnson sport collectively is a cool nod to their southern roots and always entertaining stage personas.
Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson – We defy anyone to sit still when this duo’s “Uptown Funk” plays, THE good-time, boogie down megahit of ’15 nominated for two Grammys. And while both Mars and Ronson rock seriously styling pompadours in real life, we can’t get enough of their badass looks – those hair rollers! – in the video here.
