Coming this weekend: Saturday night and New Year’s Eve, one of the most major evenings of the year to totally bring it with your hair. A night to ditch the boring bun and stay away from the straightening iron because there are so many other fun, festive options that don’t require a ton of talent or time on your part. Take note:

nye-black-curlsBe bold. Naturally curly hair is one of the easiest types to work with for a fabulous free-form party look. Start by cleansing and moisturizing with a gentle, paraben and harsh sulfates-free shampoo and conditioner, then allow hair to air dry. Randomly curl inch-wide sections with a curling iron, fluff and unfurl coils with your fingers, lightly apply a soft to the touch, residue-free hairspray and prepare to slay.

nye-blondeSmooth operator. Slicked back but not dripping wet as seen on recent runways, it’s a look that works for all lengths from short to long, but we especially like it on a bob or lob. On dry hair apply a root lifting spray to instantly strengthen and boost volume. Add lift by slightly teasing the crown area and gently brushing hair back with a boar bristle brush, all the while smoothing with the insides of your fingers. Set with a strong hold hairspray and you’ll sizzle all night long.

nye-waveRide the wave. Is there anything as alluring as an all-out, gorgeous cascade of waves? Definitely not and to get this easy to do, drop-dead look, start by blow-drying cleansed and conditioner hair with the go-to boar bristle brush. Create a deep, side part a la 1940’s Hollywood siren, mist with hairspray and go girl, go! (Tip: switching the side you part your hair on from time to time is very beneficial because the longer you wear the same part, the more hair wears down in that area leading to breakage.)

nye-red-pinupUpdated updo. An effortlessly tousled French twist paired with dramatic, dangling earrings equal instant chic. And we’re not talking perfectly backcombed and sprayed to perfection; the less done it is, the more charming. Simply start by spritzing freshly shampooed, damp hair with texturizing spray, then blow-dry completely. Apply a bit of mousse throughout to help style, then gather hair at the nape of your neck and twist upward, anchoring with bobby pins here and there. Retro updo elegance meets 2017.

Happy New Year!
